Watch the Porsche Carrera GT Break its Own Record in Nürburgring

The Carrera GT managed to shaved 16 seconds off its previous lap time

The Porsche Carrera GT, with its iconic V10 engine and timeless design, continues to captivate enthusiasts.  In 2004, shortly after its debut, the Carrera GT completed the Nürburgring’s “Green Hell” in an impressive 7 minutes and 28 seconds, equipped with stock Pirelli P Zero tires and driven by the legendary Walter Röhrl.

Recently, Porsche upgraded the Carrera GT with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, custom-designed specifically for the car by one of the world’s top tire manufacturers. In a test conducted by Sport Auto magazine, the Carrera GT shaved an astounding 16 seconds off its previous time, achieving a lap of 7 minutes and 12 seconds.

This test featured a yellow Carrera GT, supported by Manthey Racing and piloted by Jörg Bergmeister. Apart from the upgraded tires, the car remained unchanged, retaining its original 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine delivering 612 horsepower.

The result is a remarkable improvement that cements the Carrera GT’s legacy. The new lap time not only demonstrates the impact of advanced tire technology but also pushes the supercar further up the Nürburgring leaderboard, surpassing notable competitors such as its successor, the 918 Spyder, the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package, and the BMW M4 CSL.
