RM Sotheby’s is offering a rare 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S, estimated to fetch up to $525,000 at their Arizona auction scheduled this week. With only 183 examples built for North America, this model is among the rarest and most desirable Porsche 911s.
The Porsche 993 series, introduced in 1993, brought the 911 back to its roots while incorporating modern styling and technology. Among its highlights, the 993 Turbo featured an advanced all-wheel-drive system—Porsche’s first on a turbo model since the legendary 959. Under the hood, a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine delivered impressive performance, paired with wider tires, advanced aerodynamics, and upgraded brakes.
The Turbo S, introduced in 1997, took the platform even further. Producing 424 horsepower, it was the most powerful air-cooled 911 ever built at the time. Unique design elements, including vented rear fenders, yellow brake calipers, a distinctive rear spoiler, and quad exhaust tips, set the Turbo S apart as a true tour de force.
This particular example, chassis 375752, was built in March 1997 and delivered in a striking Arena Red Metallic finish over a luxurious Chestnut Brown leather interior. It was optioned with Porsche Exclusive features such as lumbar-support seats, a digital sound package, and Porsche script floor mats. Sold initially through Beechmont Porsche in Cincinnati, Ohio, the car received meticulous care, with regular servicing documented in its service booklet.
The car’s history reflects its global appeal. After a stint in Florida and New Jersey, it was exported to Europe in 2007, residing in Germany and Italy before being repatriated to the United States. Its current owner recently commissioned a full inspection at a Porsche dealer in Santa Barbara, California, addressing minor electrical repairs and fitting a new battery. Additionally, a set of 993 hardback sport seats, trimmed to match the interior, was also installed. The original lumbar-support seats remain with the car.
