Ultra-Rare 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo S Lightweight Up For Sale

One of only 86 Turbo Lightweights built

RM Sotheby’s will offer a 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo S Lightweight at their London sale on November 2, with an estimated value of $900,000 to $1,200,000 USD. This marks the first time this rare 911 Turbo S Lightweight is being offered for sale, making it an exceptional and highly sought-after find.

The Porsche 911 Turbo S Lightweight was first introduced as a design study at the 1992 Geneva Auto Show, the car received a positive reception, prompting Porsche to produce a limited run of this special model. Built by Porsche’s Exclusive Department in Zuffenhausen, the Turbo S was an upgraded version of the standard Turbo II, with extensive modifications to the 3.3-liter turbocharged engine.

These upgrades increased power output by nearly 20 percent, delivering 381 brake horsepower, compared to the Turbo’s 320. The engine also produced 36 foot-pounds of torque at 4,800 rpm. This power enabled the Turbo S to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 180 mph.

Weight-saving measures included removing comfort features like power windows, air conditioning, and power-adjustable seats. Lightweight fiberglass-reinforced carbon composite was used for the doors, front boot lid, and rear spoiler, while thinner glass was installed in the rear and side windows. Inside, lightweight bucket seats and minimal sound insulation helped bring the Turbo S’s weight to just 1,290 kilograms—180 kilograms lighter than the standard Turbo II.

Of the 86 Turbo S Lightweight models, only 19 were made in right-hand drive, with 11 for the UK and eight for other markets. This particular example, finished in Grand Prix White, was originally delivered to South Africa. Notably, it was equipped with reselected air conditioning. Despite its intended destination, the car was shipped to an influential supercar collector in Asia, where it remained in storage as part of a vast collection.

During this time, it was driven very sparingly, accumulating just 130 kilometers (approximately 81 miles) since new. It was recently refurbished from experts in Southern California, due to its paint getting damaged. The car underwent a full service and was fitted with new tires, ensuring it is ready for use by its next owner.
