Supercars are the pinnacle of automotive performance, design and technology. The folks at Porsche are no strangers to building some of the most desirable supercars ever. Each decade or so we see a new Porsche supercar at the top of the automotive world and they are absolutely amazing, every single one of them. At the upcoming 2024 Amelia Island Auction event, Bonhams will be offering two of the best Porsche supercars ever made: a 2004 Porsche Carrera GT and a 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach.
2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach
The 918 Spyder was the ultimate Porsche. It bought Porsche into the world of electrification with a unique plug-in hybrid drivetrain that produced a whopping 887 hp. Performance was absolutely astonishing, with 0 – 60 mph in in just 2.2 seconds and a Nürburgring Nordschleife time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds.
Released in a limited edition of just 918 units, it was an absolutely amazing car. While the spec sheet suggested the McLaren P1 was faster at the time, in the real world, the Porsche’s superb traction ensures things are a little closer. Throttle response and the engine’s exploitability help the Porsche stand out, and as always most pundits picked it as their favorite hypercar of the era.
Originally delivered new to Canada, this remarkable Porsche 918 Spyder offered here boasts the coveted Weissach Package, a rarity among its limited production run of 918 units. Among them, only 230 sported this exclusive option, enhancing performance with lightweight magnesium wheels, carbon fiber accents, and aerodynamic enhancements.
Distinguished further by its unique Oryx White Metallic hue, this specimen features a captivating contrast of black interior with red highlights, complemented by black wheels and vibrant green brake calipers. With just 5,138 kilometers (3,177 miles) logged, its pristine condition underscores its allure as a prized addition to any esteemed automotive collection.
2004 Porsche Carrera GT
Before the Porsche 918 was the Porsche Carrera GT. Derived for production from a canceled racecar program, the Carrera GT arrived in 2004, packing a unique 5.7-liter V10 smack in the middle of its carbon monocoque chassis, driving 612 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
It was notoriously difficult to control, but talented hands could hustle it to 60 in 3.6 seconds and on to a 205 mph top speed. With an original MSRP close to $450,000 this limited production run Porsche (1270 units) is now considered one of the best supercars ever made (alongside names like the Ferrari F40).
Delivered brand new by Barrier Porsche in Bellevue, Washington, this exceptional Porsche Carrera GT found its first home with Bill Neukom, renowned for his roles at Microsoft and the San Francisco Giants. Adorned in the timeless combination of GT Silver Metallic and Terracotta Leather, it boasts additional features like air conditioning, XT Bucket Seats, and a Porsche Online Pro CD Radio. During Mr. Neukom’s 14-year ownership, the car was sparingly driven, accumulating just 1,800 miles.
