This Ultra-Rare 964 Carrera RS 3.8 Could Be Yours

One of just twelve examples finished in striking Speed Yellow

Few Porsches command as much respect as the 964-generation Carrera RS 3.8, an ultra-rare variant that embodies Porsche’s motorsport DNA. Currently available through RM Sotheby’s, this example is one of only 55 ever built, making it one of the most exclusive air-cooled 911s.

The 964 generation marked a pivotal evolution for Porsche’s iconic 911. Introduced in 1989, the Carrera 2 and Carrera 4 featured a more modern chassis with significant technological advancements. The Carrera 4 pioneered all-wheel drive in a production 911, borrowing from the groundbreaking Porsche 959.

In 1992, Porsche paid homage to the legendary 2.7 and 3.0 RS models with the release of the Carrera RS—a lightweight, high-performance variant inspired by the Carrera Cup race car. The standard RS retained the 3.6-liter engine, tuned to 260 horsepower, but Porsche took things further with the Carrera RS 3.8. This version increased displacement to 3,746cc, producing 300 horsepower and featuring a widened Turbo-style body, a setup also used for the race-bred RSR.

The example on offer, built for the 1993 model year, is finished in striking Speed Yellow, one of just twelve painted in this iconic Porsche Motorsport color. Inside, matching yellow seatbacks and seat belts contrast with black leather and gray seat inserts. Originally delivered in Germany, the car was exported to Japan before returning to Europe in 2007.

Since being acquired by its current owner in 2011, it has been meticulously maintained by Marrocco Motorsport in Italy, accumulating nearly 30,000 km under careful stewardship. A recent service in December 2022 included an engine-out inspection, new spark plugs, a clutch replacement, and fresh tires. The car has since covered approximately 1,000 km and remains in exceptional condition, just under 77,600 km from new.
