The Porsche 356A Speedster is a beautiful car and an important part of Porsche’s long motoring history. There’s a 1958 version of the car for sale at Bring A Trailer right now. This Porsche has remained under the ownership of a single family from 1967 to 2022 and joined the 1987 La Carrera Classic.
The body has been repainted in its current shade of silver but originally came with Ruby Red finish. Exterior features include body-color bumpers without overriders, Talbot side mirrors, stone guards over the headlights, gold-color badging, and a black convertible top with matching side curtains.
The cabin is trimmed in black leather upholstery over fixed-back bucket seats with color-matched trim over the door panels, rear shelf, and upper dash. Additional features include charcoal square-weave carpeting with tan binding, black latch-and-link lap belts, a Porsche-crest shift knob, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio.
The car is powered by a replacement 1.6-liter flat-four mated to a four-speed manual transaxle. The engine was was installed in 1973 and features a case stamped with P*4096805*, corresponding with a Type 616/40 engine originally produced for a 1969 Porsche 912.
The current bid is at $90,000 and the auction ends in nine days. If you want to own a beautiful vintage Porsche, now is your chance!
I never understand why someone would pay a preowned Ferrari price for a lumpy old Porsche other than for emotional reasons. I would personally never pay for the hype or cosmetic/superficial value of any car. It should either give me performance that justifies the price otherwise it’s as good as non-existent for me. This car is one of those. Just over hyped by some nostalgic Porsche fanboys and having nothing significant to offer. Moreover, this particular example is also repainted, that itself drops the value down to half. The owner has some nerve to ask that high a price for this old repainted compromise.
