Porsche enthusiasts had long speculated about how a Cayman would perform with a 911 engine. The automaker answered with the 981 GT4, featuring a 911 powerplant and delivering a driving experience many had only imagined.
But the demand for more led to the creation of the GT4 RS, equipped with a high-revving flat-six from the GT3, surpassing expectations. Porsche then took things even further by introducing the 718 Spyder RS, offering the same engine in an open-top form.
At the heart of the Spyder RS is its 4.0-liter flat-six engine, sourced from the GT3. It revs up to 9,000 RPM, generating 500 horsepower, propelling the lightweight 1,400 kg roadster from 0-62 mph in just 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 191 mph.
The Spyder RS is crafted with additional air intakes, sleek louvres covering the mid-mounted engine, and improved downforce compared to its standard counterpart. Its bodywork features carbon fiber-reinforced plastic for weight reduction, while the RS-specific chassis enhances the convertible’s dynamic handling and driving precision.
