The Hillsborough (California) Concours d’ Elegance, on 21 July 2019, has been held for 63 years. It started in 1956 and is reportedly the longest running consecutive (in years) Concours in existence. It is held in Hillsborough California, a well-to-do suburb south of San Francisco. It’s well supported by local companies and organisations, in fact it is put on to support local charities, so it is well received by the community.

This year it has turned into a three-day event. The Friday night was a cocktail reception at the Candy Store in Burlingame California which is a car storage club for exotic cars. Bruce Canepa of Santa Cruz, who owns and runs a restoration business was the featured speaker. This was followed on Saturday by a Tour D’ Elegance road rally with lunch at a local private home. Sunday was the actual Concours event, held at the Crystal Springs Golf club in Hillsborough California, a beautiful venue in the hills near Interstate Highway 280 South of the San Francisco Airport. The weather was perfect, sunny and warm.

In 2019, the featured car was Porsche to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the company, which accounts for why there were more Porsche cars than normal. But that is not to say there was not a good cross section of other cars ranging from old antiques, motorcycles, Ferraris, American Muscle cars of the ‘60s and ‘70s, and a wide range of eclectic vehicles from all walks of life.

This display even included a Lamborghini Tractor. As the story goes, Ferruccio Lamborghini (an Italian tractor manufacturer) started the Lamborghini Automobile company in 1963, when Ferrari would not build him a car to his specification. From then on, he built his own cars. The company today is of course part of the VW group of auto companies.

Bruce Canepa brought several really nice (and historically significant) Porsche race cars from his shops in Santa Cruz (Scotts Valley) to help give the event some additional Porsche flavour. In fact, one of his 917s graced the program cover. The following is a brief photo tour of some of the vehicles that were on tap there:
