Little-known Special-Edition Porsche Classic Up For Sale

Rare Find: 1974 Porsche 914 LE "Creamsicle"

Based on the Porsche 914, this special-edition model was a commemorative release that celebrated one of the most dominant Porsche racing cars in history. In 1973, the Porsche 917/30 reigned supreme over the CanAm series, winning six out of eight races on the way to a dominant championship triumph. Unfortunately, SCAA regulation changes rendered the 917/30 illegible to compete, cutting short the V12 racing car’s remarkable run.

In 1974, Porsche decided to celebrate the 917/30’s achievements by selling a limited run of its 914 sports car – 1,000 units in total. Each example, a 2.0-litre model, boasts a few differentiating options that set it apart. They include custom badging and a choice of only two separate colour schemes.

The Porsche 914 Limited Edition, or LE, was exclusively available in North America. Half the cars were painted black with Sunflower Yellow accents, earning them the nickname ‘Bumblebee.’ The remaining 500 were Ivory White with Phoenix Red (an almost orange shade) accents, aptly named ‘Creamsicle.’

Features on the car include Hella-branded fog lights, 50th-anniversary tool kit, jack, Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, Mahle alloy wheels, and a full-size spare tire fitted in the front trunk.
