The 2016 Porsche 911 R, arguably the purest form within the 911 model range, pays homage to the brand’s storied heritage with a blend of modern elements. Renowned for providing a manual transmission option for Porsche’s top naturally aspirated model, the 911 R is more than just that.
Porsche designed this car for just the thrill of driving. It’s completely different from the GT3 RS with its big spoiler, an overly stiffened suspension and an estranged paddled gearbox that made that car a peculiar choice to many Porsche fans.
A limited-production variant, the 911 R draws inspiration from the 1967 homologation special of the same name. Its styling mirrors the contemporary 911 GT3, incorporating construction elements from the GT3 RS, such as a magnesium roof panel and a carbon-fiber hood. Notable features include a carbon-fiber deck lid, front fenders, a model-specific front lip, rear underbody splitter, retractable spoiler, and an aluminum grille.
The example offered here by online auction house, Bring A Trailer, is the 394th of 991 units manufactured in a single model year. It boasts a white exterior with red stripes, complemented by Tarpan Brown natural leather and Pepita houndstooth cloth upholstery
