The stunning all-white car you see here is one of the rarest Porsches ever made. Offered for sale on Bring A Trailer, it’s one of only 20 lightweight rally specials made to meet Group B homologation for the 1984 World Rally Championship season.
The 911 SC/RS, introduced in 1984, combines the ‘SC’ (Super Carrera) nod to its Carrera heritage with the ‘RS’ (RennSport) signifying its racing intent. Developed under Jürgen Barth, the SC/RS was created for sponsor Rothmans as a 911-based rally car, evolving from the 911 SC for Group B homologation.
Of the 20 examples, five were kept for the Rothmans team, and the remaining 15 were sold to customers in street or race configurations. Built on the 930 platform, the SC/RS featured a lightweight body, aluminum panels, fiberglass bumpers, and thin-gauge glass, reducing its weight to just 2,160 pounds—nearly 600 pounds lighter than the standard 911.
Chassis 021 was delivered new to Van Dijk Racing in Switzerland on March 6, 1984, and raced once, finishing 14th in the 1984 Tour de Corse. Purchased by its current owner in 2004, it was then brought to the US.
Finished in white with Rothmans decals, it is powered by a 3.0-liter Type 930/18 flat-six engine with 10.3:1 compression, dry-sump lubrication, and Bosch-Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection. It also features a Type 915/71 five-speed manual transaxle, cross-drilled disc brakes, adjustable Bilstein dampers, 16” Fuchs alloy wheels, an 80-liter fuel tank, rally lights, an aluminum skid plate, a roll cage, racing seats, a fuel heater, and a Jaeger rally calculator.
