Porsche introduced the 991 GT3 at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, followed by the updated 991.2 GT3 in 2017. Major engine upgrades were introduced, allowing the 4.0-liter flat-six to hit a 9,000 rpm redline, with a focus on reducing internal friction for enhanced throttle response. The rear spoiler on the 991.2 was positioned higher and further back for increased aerodynamic efficiency.
Notably, the 991.2 GT3 reintroduced the option of a manual transmission alongside the PDK dual-clutch transmission. A Touring version was also launched, which came with the comfort package, a manual transmission, and replaced the fixed rear wing with an electronically operated one.
In its second generation, the 992 GT3 Touring retains the high-revving 4.0-liter flat-six engine, complete with its 9,000 rpm limit—1,500 rpm higher than the 2022 Carrera S—but now features a double-wishbone front suspension, similar to the setup from the RSR racecar.
This improvement doubles the front axle stiffness compared to the previous generation while maintaining ride comfort due to better body control. The 992 GT3 reflects Porsche’s philosophy of continuous refinement, proving that the 911 improves incrementally each year. It also carries on the tradition of offering extensive options for customization and personalization.
