Extreme perfectly characterizes the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Incredibly fast with a factory-rated top speed of 209 MPH, this exhilarating vehicle generates a robust 620 HP from its twin-turbocharged 3.6L engine, tuned to the same specification as the Porsche GT1 prototype Le Mans-winning race car.
Built with the singular goal of reaffirming Porsche’s engineering excellence, this machine aimed to claim the top spot on the Nürburgring lap-time hierarchy by surpassing the lap record set by the renowned Porsche Carrera GT supercar with a super 911-based road car. The race-car performance was validated by completing the challenging Nürburgring lap in a record-shattering 7 minutes, 18 seconds.
Produced in limited quantity with only 500 examples in 2011, the 911 GT2 RS follows a straightforward recipe for success: take an existing 997 Turbo, incorporate the GT3 RS suspension and brakes, install the GT1-inspired racing engine, and ruthlessly reduce the car’s weight.
The drastic weight-reduction program, bringing the machine down to a trim 3,050 pounds, involves deletions and substitutions. The all-wheel-drive system is removed and replaced with rear-wheel-drive only, rear seats are eliminated, standard front seats are swapped for lightweight sport seats, carbon-fiber units replace the front fenders, multiple aluminum suspension components replace their steel counterparts, and new lightweight wheels are fitted.
