The race-ready 911 GT3 R, developed by German sports car manufacturer Porsche in accordance with FIA GT3 regulations, made its global debut on January 14, 2010, at the Autosport International Motorsport Show in Birmingham, U.K. This track-tuned GT3 R is specifically designed for participants in the Porsche Cup series, a one-make competition that takes place alongside Formula 1 races during Grand Prix weekends.
Powered by a four-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, the 911 GT3 R boasts a maximum output of 480 bhp, which is transmitted to the rear axle through a sequential six-speed dog gearbox.
With a weight of just 1,200 kg (2,646 lb), the development of the 911 GT3 R began with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, introduced in September for one-make cup racing. The GT3 R, featuring a 0.2-liter increase in engine size, provides 30 bhp more than the Cup model. Both cars share the extra-wide body of the 911 GT3 RS street-legal sports car.
Equipped with an anti-lock brake system (ABS), traction control, and an e-gas with a “throttle-blip” function, the new GT3 R is more user-friendly for aspiring amateur racing drivers compared to its predecessor.
The widened track of the GT3 R, evident in the flared wheel arches at the front and rear, surpasses that of the previous model. Additionally, following the design trend of second-generation 911s, the new 911 GT3 R features distinctive LED rear light clusters.
