The Porsche 918 Spyder was a mid-engined, plug-in hybrid hypercar that finally proved that gearheads had nothing to worry about when it came to hybrid technology becoming a bigger part of our automobiles. The heart of the Porsche 918 Spyder was a naturally-aspirated 4.6-liter V8 engine that was capable of producing 608 horsepower that was paired with two electric motors that delivered an additional 279 horsepower each, for a combined total of 887 horsepower. Production on the Porsche 918 began on September 18, 2013 and ran through June 2015 (all VINs were 2015 model year cars). Each car had a starting price of $845,000 (U.S.) and sold out quickly (by December, 2014). The car was an absolute beast. In an independent series of speed tests performed by Car and Driver Magazine, the Porsche 918, achieved a 0-62 mph of just 2.6 seconds, a 0-100 mph time of 4.9 seconds and a 0-180 mph time of just 17.5 seconds. It is one of the fastest accelerating cars on the planet and its top speed is up there too with the fastest cars in the world. More importantly, it was an amazing car to drive, Porsche having nailed the calibration of the advanced systems, allowing the car to be pushed to its limits while still feeling like a true Porsche sports car.

We compare the Porsche 918s performance numbers against some other famous Porsche cars. The main driver of the Porsche 918s staggering performance is that amazing powertrain. The 4.6-litre, eight-cylinder engine coupled with the hybrid module and all of its advanced electronics and hardware make the 918 an absolute performance monster, even compared to other very fast Porsche models. The Porsche 918 pricing started at €781,000 in Europe and US$845,000 in the U.S. Clearly that was base price and options were added on top. We have seen cars with $150,000 in options and even $63,000 custom paint jobs (Liquid Metal Paint). The Weissach package was another $84,000 also.
The market for the Porsche 918 Spyder has been healthy in recent years. We have seen cars in the $1.1 million to $1.7 million dollar range. At auction, most cars sell above asking and with Porsche still offering servicing and support, we expect that the market prices for the Porsche 918 will stay well above $1 million for the foreseeable future and start to push the $2 million mark for prime examples.
During the 918s 21-month production run, Porsche built a total of 918 units. Although production went from 2013 to 2015, all 918 Spyder cars were designated at 2015 model year cars. We were not able to find the exact split between base cars and Weissach optioned cars, but most sources suggest as many as 25% of all 918 Spyders came with the Weissach options.

There were two main configurations for the Porsche 918 Spyder. There was the "Base" model and the "Base with Weissach Package". There were also tons of options and customization a customer could choose.
"The" package to get with the 918 Spyder is the Weissach Package because it gives you a bunch of cool additions to the base 918 Spyder. You get improved aerodynamics, 90 lbs in weight savings (down from 3,715 lbs. to 3,616 lbs). Other tasty items include magnesium wheels, a lighter brake design, ceramic wheel bearings and titanium bolts for the chassis. Performance also improves, with 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds. The overall result is a sharper, more focused 918.
Officially, the Porsche 918 can hit a top speed of 214 mph. The inside scoop is that the 918 Spyder would have a higher top speed if it wasn't for those tires.

Acceleration from zero to 60 mph is over in just 2.6 seconds, but several third party testers were actually able to do it in an absurd 2.2 seconds.
