Our 2025 Porsche Macan Rating
Pros
Irrespective of ICE or electric power, the Macan lineup continues to impress with its exceptional driving dynamics. The gas-powered Macan, particularly in the S and GTS trims, offers quick acceleration and engaging handling, making it feel more like a sports sedan than a typical SUV. The electric variants maintain this performance and benefit from improved passenger space and a refined, high-quality cabin.
Cons
Despite its strengths, the Macan lineup has some drawbacks. The gas-powered models offer limited rear passenger and cargo space compared to competitors, and the infotainment system feels outdated. The electric variants, while technologically advanced, come with a significant price increase over the previous generation, and some drivers may find the EV motor lacks the traditional "Porsche" character.
Verdict
The 2025 Porsche Macan remains a top contender in the compact luxury SUV segment, offering a blend of performance, luxury, and practicality. While the gas-powered models continue to deliver a dynamic driving experience, the new electric variants represent a significant step forward in Porsche's electrification journey. Caters to a wide range of preferences for luxury SUV enthusiasts.
Overview
The Porsche Macan has long been a cornerstone of the brand’s lineup, combining sports car dynamics with SUV practicality. The 95B platform, introduced in 2014, received its final significant update in 2022, enhancing performance and design across the range. The base model featured a 261-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, while the Macan S adopted a 375-hp twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6. The GTS variant, serving as the performance flagship, boasted 434 hp and advanced suspension tuning . Despite these updates, the internal combustion engine (ICE) Macan's future remains uncertain, with Porsche planning to cease production for non-European markets by 2026 as the platform reaches the end of its cycle.
In response to evolving market demands and environmental considerations, Porsche introduced the all-electric Macan in 2024, marking a significant shift in the model's evolution. Built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) co-developed with Audi, the electric Macan offers a range of trims to cater to diverse performance preferences. The lineup includes the base Macan Electric, Macan 4 Electric, Macan 4S Electric, and the high-performance Macan Turbo Electric.
The electric Macan's design reflects Porsche's commitment to blending performance with practicality. All variants share a 95 kWh usable battery pack and an 800V charging architecture, enabling rapid DC fast charging up to 270 kW. This setup allows for a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 20 minutes under ideal conditions. Real-world range varies between 240 and 300 miles, depending on the specific model and driving conditions.
Despite the introduction of the electric Macan, Porsche continues to offer the ICE versions in certain markets, including North America. The current ICE lineup comprises the base Macan, Macan T, Macan S, and Macan GTS, each providing a unique blend of performance and luxury. However, with the planned discontinuation of ICE Macan production by 2026, Porsche's focus is increasingly shifting towards electrification, aligning with broader industry trends and regulatory pressures.
The transition to electric vehicles has not been without challenges. Porsche has experienced a slowdown in EV sales, particularly in key markets like China and the United States, prompting the company to reconsider its electrification strategy. In response, Porsche is exploring the possibility of reintroducing hybrid or combustion engine variants for models initially planned as EV-only, such as the Macan and Cayenne . This strategic pivot underscores the brand's commitment to flexibility and responsiveness to market dynamics.
As of 2025, the Porsche Macan stands at a crossroads, embodying the brand's legacy of performance while embracing the future of electrification. The coexistence of ICE and electric variants offers consumers a range of options, catering to traditional enthusiasts and early adopters alike. With continued innovation and adaptability, the Macan is poised to maintain its position as a leader in the compact luxury SUV segment.
“Still a hugely capable, desirable package that’s just starting to show its age in places”

What's New
If you're more interested in range than power, the base Macan Electric is worth a look and is all new for 2025. The rear-wheel-drive base model joins the Macan EV lineup for 2025 with a single 355 horsepower electric motor which Porsche says can power the SUV to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.
At the other end of the performance spectrum, the 4S trim also launches for 2025. This dual-motor model makes 442 horsepower and boasts a claimed 60 mph time of 3.9 seconds. The 4S can be optioned with the torque-vectoring system from the top-spec Turbo; all models come with an air suspension and adaptive dampers. We think of the new 4S as the sweet spot in the range, an appealing, less expensive — but still high-performance — alternative to the electric Macan Turbo.
Elsewhere, Slate Gray Neo is a newly available color, and Porsche has added a new 20-inch wheel design.
Porsche makes no significant changes to the Macan for 2025. The Macan GTS also carries over unchanged for 2025.

Current Porsche Macan Lineup
The current gas-powered Macan lineup is pretty standard fare, with all the familiar variants accounted for in the gas-powered Macans, while the all-new Macan Electric range follows similar naming conversions that we all basically understand. The Porsche Macan EV is, first of all, an entirely different vehicle than the gas-powered Macan. It relies on the same formula, though: It's a luxury SUV with an emphasis on performance. Porsche added two new trims for the 2025 Macan, giving you a range of power options starting at 335 horsepower on the base Macan Electric and topping out at 576 hp for the Macan Turbo. We dig the electric Macan's performance capabilities but are less enthused with its high price and lack of standard features. The Macan ICE models include the base Macan, the Macan T, Macan S and top of the range Macan GTS.
