Even though the 981 Spyder is an entry-level sports car and is often considered by many as a poor man’s Porsche, it is no slouch when it comes to speed and performance which has been proven by the folks at AutoTopNL.
Introduced in 2015 as the lightest model in Porsche’s lineup, the 981 Boxster Spyder shares numerous components with the high-performance GT4 and boasts a distinctive look with its signature double-hump fairings and ducktail spoiler.
The 981 Boxster Spyder adopts its 3.8L flat-six engine from the Cayman GT4 model, making it the largest and most powerful engine ever fitted to a Boxster at that time. This naturally aspirated flat-six generates up to 375 HP and 309 lb.-ft of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in as little as 4.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 180 MPH.
In the video, the Porsche 981 Spyder was able to quickly accelerate on an unrestricted section of the German Autobahn and achieve triple-digit speeds repeatedly.
