Pic of the Week – 2007 FIA GT Silverstone RAC Tourist Trophymy o
Were you there? The 2007 FIA GT Silverstone RAC Tourist Trophy was the second race of the season in this 11-year old championship. This racing series allowed for GT race cars in two classes, GT1 and GT2, where the races were two hours long and required two mandatory pit stops. Cars ranged from the mighty Maserati MC12 (6-litre V12), Aston Martin DBR9, Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT and the Chrysler Viper GTS-R (8-litre V10!) in the GT1 class to the Ferrari F430 GTC and Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the GT2 class. To say the least, the racing was very exciting!
Our feature car, the #97 BMS Scuderia Italia Porsche 997 GT3 RSR, was driven by the Frenchman Emmanuel Collard and Matteo Malucelli from Italy. It was a no-holds barred race, with one of the Porsches losing its driver’s door, while the Collard/Malucelli car lost an ‘eye’ in a scuffle with another competitor. Here the Porsche was pushed offline by one of the GT1 Aston Martin DBR9s as they approached the Luffield complex. The #97 Porsche 997 GT3 RSR qualified in 19th place overall, finishing the race one place better in 18th spot and fourth in the GT2 class. Written by: Glen Smale Image by: Virtual Motorpix/Glen Smale
