Onboard with the Limited-Edition 2016 Porsche 911 R

At the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche introduced the limited-edition 911 R, featuring the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter, 500-horsepower engine from the previous GT3 RS, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. This transmission praised as a significant highlight, retained the existing casing but had revised internals. An optional single-mass flywheel enhanced performance, while a ‘Sport’ mode assisted less experienced drivers by optimizing rev-matching.

The 911 R is a lightweight masterpiece featuring carbon fiber front wings, a titanium exhaust, and reduced sound insulation. Further weight savings were possible by removing the air conditioning and the radio. The car kept the GT3’s rear-wheel steering with unique tuning and standard carbon-ceramic brakes. With the GT3 RS’s large wing replaced by a rear diffuser, the 911 R remained stable at over 200 mph. Despite its road-focused design, it out-accelerated the track-oriented GT3 RS. Only 991 units were produced.
