Background
This 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is a slick-top coupe that spent nearly a decade off the road before it was donated to its current owner, the Porsche Club of America, by a member in 2020. It is finished in Guards Red over black and beige upholstery, and power is provided by a 3.6-liter flat-six that drives all four wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. Reconditioning work following the donation included performing a paint correction, addressing areas of rust, overhauling the fuel system, adjusting the valves, and replacing several gaskets and seals.
Modifications include a Fabspeed exhaust system, a front strut brace, KW V3 coil-overs, 18” HRE wheels, upgraded brakes, and a Porsche Classic stereo and Recaro Pole Position bucket seat with patterned inserts. This 964 C4 coupe is offered at no reserve on dealer consignment in Arizona with an owner’s manual, service records, removed parts, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Maryland title.
The car is finished in Guards Red (80K) and was ordered without a sunroof. Exterior features include a speed-activated rear spoiler, integrated fog lights, and heated and power-adjustable side mirrors. Under current ownership, a paint correction was performed, an area of corrosion below the windshield was addressed, and the windshield was replaced. The hood and decklid struts were replaced in 2021 and the third brake light and rear spoiler were repaired in 2024, at which time the seals for the rocker panels were replaced.
Under current ownership, the 18” HRE 305 FMR wheels were mounted with 225/40 front and 265/35 rear Pirelli P Zero tires. A front strut brace, KW V3 adjustable coil overs, 964 Turbo-sourced front brake calipers, 993-sourced rear brake calipers, and upgraded brake rotors have been installed. The brake fluid was flushed in 2023, and the tie rod ends have been replaced.
Recaro Pole Position front bucket seats trimmed in black leather and patterned cloth have been installed, and matching upholstery extends to the rear seats. Under current ownership, a Porsche Classic stereo and aftermarket speakers were added, and cabin features include replacement speakers, cruise control, and power windows. The shifter linkage boots were replaced, and an area of corrosion in the floor pan was addressed in 2021. The air conditioning system was repaired in 2023.
The leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation, including a central tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline as well as a 180-mph speedometer, a Quartz analog clock, and gauges for oil level, oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer was repaired and fitted with a replacement gear in 2024, and it now shows 37k miles. A mileage inconsistency is noted on the Carfax report in an October 2024 entry.
The air-cooled 3.6L M64 flat-six was factory-rated at 247 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. Work performed in 2021 included replacing the fan shroud, fan hub, fan belts, negative battery cable, and intake boots and overhauling the fuel system with a replacement tank, pump, filter, and lines. In 2024, the valves were adjusted and the valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and distributor cap and rotor were replaced. The rear sound pad has also been replaced. Compression test results are shown in the gallery below.
Power is sent to all four wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle, and the Carrera 4 features a computer-controlled limited-slip differential. A Fabspeed exhaust system was installed under previous ownership. The underside was cleaned with dry ice in 2023.
