In 2018, at the sixth Rennsport Reunion hosted at Laguna Seca Raceway, Porsche unveiled a tribute to the iconic 1979 935 Longtail, fondly known as “Moby Dick.” Honoring Porsche’s 70th anniversary, the revived 935 debuted as an exclusive track day special based on the 991.2 911 GT2 RS Clubsport.
Embracing unrestricted design freedom, it featured striking new lightweight carbon fiber bodywork reminiscent of its predecessor, including wide box flares, a flat-nose front-end, and an imposing rear diffuser and wing.
Powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat six producing 700 horsepower and 553 ft/lbs of torque, the 935 boasted a 7-speed PDK gearbox, race-inspired traction control, and stability management for precise handling on circuits like Road America and Laguna Seca.
Limited to just 77 units worldwide, the 935 quickly sold out, affirming its status as a modern Porsche masterpiece. This specific car, originally finished in Agate Grey Metallic, was equipped with optional features including ceramic composite brakes, a Sport Chrono package, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Chassis 199110 is one of the very few 935s to have seen competition. It made a notable appearance at the Porsche Motorsport GT2 Supersportscar Weekend at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in July 2019. Competing under the livery of sponsors Carrera Toys and Revell, it achieved commendable results.
Accompanied by its original documentation and a history of meticulous care, this 935 will hit the auction block on RM Sotheby’s Tegernsee Auction next month and is expected to fetch as much as $1,650,000.
