Gunther Werks was founded on the vision of what if Porsche had continued evolving the 993 model with modern materials and engineering. Beneath the carbon exterior, engineers developed a custom suspension with adjustable coilovers, remote reservoirs, specialized rear control arms, upgraded anti-roll bars, lightweight uprights, and a hydraulic front-end lift system.
The 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six engine is rebuilt to 4-liter specs at Rothsport Road and Race in Sherwood, Oregon, using high-performance components and forged internals. It features a custom intake plenum inspired by the 996 GT3, MoTec Bi-Mode management, and individual throttle bodies, delivering 430 horsepower. This power is channeled through a Rothsport-built Getrag G50 6-speed transaxle with close-ratio gearing.
Gunther Werks offers a unique driving experience, enhanced further by their open-air Speedster model, which honors Porsche’s iconic Speedster. Based on a 993 Cabriolet, the Speedster uses advanced carbon components and upgrades, including a carbon fiber windshield frame, a new roll cage, and a roll hoop integrated with the tonneau cover for increased safety and chassis strength.
Limited to just 25 units, each Gunther Werks Speedster is a masterpiece. This particular example, finished in Aston Martin’s Skyfall Silver, boasts Salsa Red GT brake calipers, nickel-finished Billet mirrors, matte Metallic Silver and satin Carmine Red striping, and optional carbon magnesium Fuchs-style wheels with a Graphite finish.
The interior, accessed via carbon fiber sills, features a unique blend of exposed carbon fiber, Mercedes-Benz Classic Red Nappa leather, and contrasting Dunkegrau Alcantara, maintaining the iconic 993-style layout with a modern twist.
This Gunther Werks Speedster with only 93 miles will be available for bidding at RM Sotheby’s upcoming Monterey 2024 auction event next month with an estimated value of $975,000 – $1,100,000 USD.
