Is the Porsche 997 GT2 Really a Widowmaker?

The 997 GT2 debuted in late 2007 as a 2008 model. Its 3.6-liter flat-six engine, featuring variable geometry turbochargers and quad camshafts, produces 530hp at 6,500rpm and 505ft-lb torque at just 2,200rpm, maintaining a flat torque curve up to 4,500rpm. This power enables a 0-60mph time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 204mph, making it the first Porsche road car to exceed 200mph.

Weighing 3,170 pounds with full equipment, the GT2 has a power-to-weight ratio of under 6 pounds per horsepower. It was also the first Porsche to feature carbon-ceramic brake discs, paired with 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers. Its “expansion-type intake manifold” increases both power and fuel efficiency.

Often nicknamed the “Widowmaker,” some consider the Porsche 997 GT2 as a scary and dangerous car. But is this reputation deserved? Let’s take a closer look through this video published by ISSIMI on YouTube.
