In a recent episode of 9WERKS TV on YouTube, we are treated to comparison between two of the most coveted Porsche 911 Rennsport models ever made—the iconic 2.7 RS and its rarer sibling, the Carrera 3.0 RS.
The 2.7 RS, introduced in 1973, was a homologation special designed to compete in Group 3 racing. With its lightweight construction, powerful engine, and distinctive ducktail spoiler, it quickly became a sought-after collectible. However, just one year later, Porsche released an even more potent version: the 3.0 RS.
This car is so rare that many enthusiasts have never even heard of it before. Only 109 units were produced, including both the RS and RSR models, making it one of the rarest Rennsport 911s ever. The 3.0 RS offered significant performance improvements over the 2.7. Where the 2.7 RS produced 210 horsepower and weighed 975 kg, the 3.0 RS delivered 230 horsepower while shedding weight to just 900 kg.
But how do these figures translate into performance on the track? Watch the video to find out as 9WERKS TV brings out these two iconic Porsche 911s to Abbeville circuit in France.
