Set for this weekend, 17-18 March, the 76th Members’ Meeting at the Goodwood Motor Circuit is bound to be an absolute humdinger. If you are a Porsche enthusiast, then I hope that you have your ticket safely tucked away, ready for the weekend. But be warned to wrap up warmly, the weather forecast is for another cold blast from the east with possible snow on the Sunday.
The Members’ Meeting is a far more intimate affair, with none of the crowds that you will find at the Festival of Speed or the Revival. That said, the quality of the machinery on track at the Members’ Meeting is every bit as special, and follows a carefully selected theme for each event. Held just once a year in March, a much smaller following of between 15,000-18,000 well-informed, enthusiastic spectators will pass through the gates over the weekend. This of course makes it easier to observe and get close to the cars and team personnel, ensuring a thoroughly enjoyable couple of days.
The list of Porsche machinery on the entry list is as substantial as it is impressive (31 cars in total), and these range from a lone 1960 Porsche 356, to an early 901, numerous 911s, 904s, 906s and 910s. A batch of 935s, 935/77As as well as three K3s, together with the mother of all 935s, the works 935/78 ‘Moby Dick’ will be participating in the Group 5 event. In the not too distant future, Porsche Road & Race will be bringing you a detailed, under-the-skin look at this legendary race car including interviews with those who drove it in period, and the engineer who was responsible for creating this fabulous racer, Norbert Singer. Bespoke photography, shot in Porsche’s secret warehouse in Stuttgart, will show the fantastic streamlined shape of this race car in great detail. Watch our website for further updates on this shortly.
Activities at the Members’ Meeting are not just restricted to on-track either, as food and sports bars dotted around the venue will satisfy your hunger and thirst needs. I will be heading for the Darnley Motorsport bar on the Brooklands lawn, where I hope to find a few Porsche enthusiasts!
All of the race cars pictured here, will be in action at the 76th Members’ Meeting at the Goodwood Motor Circuit this weekend. But, if you are unable to make this year’s event, don’t worry because Porsche Road & Race will be there to bring you all the action and interviews with various owners, drivers, mechanics or other motorsport personalities who are present. Be sure to check back with us.
