Driving Three Porsche 911 GT3 RS from Different Generations

Since 2003, the GT3 RS badge has marked Porsche’s most track-focused, road-legal 911. Each generation has pushed the limits with more performance, aero, and tech. Supercar Driver on YouTube compare three GT3 RS from different generations — the 997.1, 991.1, and 992 GT3 RS — to see how this car has evolved.

The 997.1 GT3 RS is raw, mechanical, and pure. It’s the last RS with a manual gearbox and hydraulic steering, weighing just 1375 kg with a 3.6L flat-six, 409 bhp, and an 8400 RPM redline. It’s about connection and involvement, not numbers.

The 991.1 GT3 RS steps things up with a 4.0L flat-six, 493 bhp, and an 8800 RPM redline. It adds rear-wheel steering, adaptive dampers, and PDK — making it sharper and faster, but still balanced and surprisingly usable on the road. It weighs 1450 kg but remains approachable, combining speed with comfort and tech that enhances rather than distracts.

The 992 GT3 RS is the wildest yet. With 525 bhp, 9000 RPM redline, advanced aerodynamics, active suspension, and a drag reduction system, it’s essentially a road-legal race car. It’s brutally fast and technically brilliant, but its extreme focus makes it less practical for the road, with stiff ride, limited storage, and a reliance on high tire temps.
