The 993-generation Porsche 911 may have marked the end of the air-cooled era, but it also ignited a booming market for custom air-cooled Porsches. Among the leading firms in this niche is Gunther Werks, based in Huntington Beach, California, known for taking the 993 to new heights.
Gunther Werks transforms the 993 by integrating extensive carbon fiber throughout the chassis, replacing various body panels and internal components to reduce weight. The car features an advanced suspension system, including bespoke DGR active coilovers, custom suspension arms, and a hydraulic front lift system.
The original 3.6-liter flat-six engine is rebuilt by Rothsport Road and Race, expanding it to 4.0 liters and boosting output to over 430 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. Power is managed by an upgraded Getrag G50 six-speed transmission.
To further enhance their creation, Gunther Werks developed a Speedster version, honoring Porsche’s iconic open-top design. Despite lacking a roof, the Speedster’s carbon fiber chassis is twice as rigid as the coupe. Finished in Skyfall Silver, this Gunther Werks Speedster is distinguished by Salsa Red GT brake calipers, nickel-finished Billet mirrors, and carbon magnesium Fuchs-style wheels.
