At their upcoming Monaco auction, RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to offer a pristine 1996 Porsche 911 GT2 with just 48 kilometers on its odometer. It is scheduled to be auction on May 11 and is valued somewhere between $1,400,000 – $1,850,000.
The Porsche 911 GT2, produced between 1995-96, elevated the flagship 993 Turbo to new heights by shedding over 500 pounds through the elimination of various components like the front-wheel-drive system, rear seats, and power-adjustable front seats.
Its M64/60R engine, with twin intercooled turbochargers, generated 480 horsepower in racing form and 430bhp in the street version, delivering a remarkable 457 foot-pounds of torque. This power, transmitted through a new six-speed transaxle and asymmetrical 40/60 limited-slip differential, resulted in an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 6.6 pounds per horsepower, surpassing the renowned 959.
The GT2’s performance-focused design boasted lightweight aluminum doors, trunk lid, and an aggressive spoiler package, including a front air splitter with up-turned canards and a bi-plane rear-deck-mounted wing with air ducts for the intercoolers. Specific 18-inch multi-piece Speedline alloy wheels filled wide bolt-on fiberglass wheel arches. With a sprint of less than four seconds to reach 60 mph and a top speed approaching 190 mph, the GT2 was a formidable performer on both road and track.
Despite its track prowess, street versions offered exceptional performance, albeit often outfitted with comfort options, making the GT2 the priciest model in the 993 lineup. Today, it remains one of Porsche’s most coveted modern-era supercars. The example offered was originally delivered new to new to Germany before making its way to the United States.
Finished in vibrant Speed Yellow and featuring a pared-back interior with a single Recaro race seat and roll cage, this Porsche 911 GT2 represents the “holy grail” of the 993 generation, embodying a legacy of high-performance, lightweight racing cars for the road that continue to captivate enthusiasts worldwide.
