A Closer Look at Kalmar Automotive’s Retro Hypercar

Dubbed the world’s first “retro hypercar,” the 9×9 by Kalmar Automotive is set to redefine the limits of bespoke automotive craftsmanship while paying tribute to the legendary Porsche 959.

This car starts as a Porsche 993. However, little of the original remains after Calmar’s meticulous transformation. The chassis evolves into a space frame, reinforced with a hidden roll cage. Carbon fiber dominates the bodywork, shaving weight while retaining structural integrity.

The powertrain comes courtesy of a modified 992 Turbo. A 3.8-liter engine, paired with a Turbo gearbox and all-wheel drive, delivers 930 horsepower. The weight distribution matches the 992’s 40:60 balance, thanks to innovative design choices like front-mounted suspension components and extensive use of lightweight materials.

It generates over 1,000 kg of downforce and rockets from 0–100 km/h in under 2 seconds, with a top speed north of 340 km/h. Kalmar Automotive plans to produce only 27 units in three configurations, each with specific weight and performance goals. This exclusivity ensures every car is as unique as its owner.
