Porsche is one of the most accomplished automakers in history, having claimed victories in nearly every major sports car and prototype racing event. Its vehicles are revered by enthusiasts worldwide, and many collections feature an impressive array of Porsche models. Though the brand has seldom ventured into the supercar arena, when it has, the results have been extraordinary.
In the 1970s, the 911 Carrera RS dominated racing circuits. The 1980s introduced the groundbreaking Porsche 959, showcasing the brand’s engineering prowess. Then came the Carrera GT in the early 2000s—a Formula 1-inspired V10-powered beast that delivered 605 horsepower and quickly became a collector’s dream.
Porsche made its next major supercar statement with the 918 Spyder, unveiled in 2010. It combined a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 with a hybrid system for 875 horsepower and 944 lb-ft of torque. It became the fastest accelerating production car with a blistering 0–60 mph time of 2.2 seconds. Advanced tech like all-wheel drive, rear-axle steering, and regenerative braking helped manage its immense power. The 918 also featured a removable roof, offering coupe and targa driving experiences, much like the Carrera GT before.
In this video from Tom Hartley Cars on YouTube, we are treated to a head-to-head comparison between two absolute legends from Porsche: the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder. Watch as they take both cars for a drive to see which one is the better investment and more fun to drive.
