Remember that Tesla promotional video where a Cybertruck towed a Porsche 911 and still beat another one in a drag race? It stirred up a lot of debate — so to settle things fairly, carwow lined up a stock Cybertruck against a stock 911 for a proper head-to-head drag race to see which one is definitely quicker.
The Cybertruck they used was the dual-motor version, packing 608 horsepower and all-wheel drive. It tips the scales at a hefty 3,090 kg and, after import costs and upgrades, costs about £150,000 in the UK. Facing it was a Porsche 911 Carrera, powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six making 394 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. Much lighter at 1,520 kg, it’s rear-wheel drive, starts at £99,800, and comes with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and launch control.
In the first race, the Cybertruck leapt off the line thanks to its instant torque, but the 911 quickly closed the gap, overtook it, and crossed the line first — running a 12.3-second quarter-mile against the Tesla’s 12.7. As expected, while the Cybertruck launched hard, it began losing steam past 80 mph, where the Porsche’s lower weight and better aerodynamics let it pull ahead.
They also ran rolling races starting from 30 mph. In these, the 911’s dual-clutch transmission and sharper power delivery gave it a clear edge at higher speeds. Even when the Cybertruck managed an early lead, the Porsche would always catch up and pass before the finish.
