This exceptionally rare 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight, chassis 9113600446, is one of only 200 M471 Lightweight examples ever produced—and just one of 17 built in right-hand drive. Finished in its original Grand Prix White with blue accents, this RS was factory-equipped with a limited-slip differential and heated rear window. Weighing approximately 100 kilograms less than its Touring (M472) counterpart, the Lightweight variant features thinner panels and glass, fixed rear windows, minimal interior trim, and racing seats.
Delivered new to London racer and dealer Dan Margulies, the car was entered in the 1973 Targa Florio, finishing an impressive 18th overall and 4th in its class. Afterward, it was campaigned in Irish rallying by Reggie McSpadden and later by Esler Crawford, under whose ownership it won the 1977 Ulster Rally and earned strong finishes in the Donegal and Manx Rallies. The car remained with Crawford for over three decades before passing to British collector Mike Burtt and, most recently, its current owner in 2022. It now shows just under 52,300 miles.
Beautifully presented in its original Comstock Racing livery, complete with period decals and stickers, the car is currently open for bidding at RM Sotheby’s as part of a sealed auction set to close in 20 days as of this writing.
