Currently up for bids on Bring A Trailer, this 2016 Porsche 911 R is #720 of the 991 units produced in a single model year. With just 2,200 miles, it remains a highly sought-after collector’s item. Originally delivered to New Country Porsche of Greenwich, Connecticut, it has been part of the Gruppe P collection in Waltham, Massachusetts since 2020.
The 911 R takes inspiration from the 1967 911 R, a lightweight homologation special. Weighing only 3,020 pounds, it borrows components from the GT3 and GT3 RS, including a 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-six producing 500 horsepower. Unlike its winged counterparts, it features a manual-only six-speed transmission, making it a purist’s dream. The single-mass flywheel, rev-matching system, and limited-slip differential enhance the driver-centric experience.
It wears white paint with red stripes, carbon-fiber body panels, and a magnesium roof. A retractable spoiler replaces the GT3’s fixed wing, reducing downforce but allowing for a 200-mph top speed—higher than both the GT3 and GT3 RS. Other key performance features include rear-axle steering, carbon-ceramic brakes with yellow calipers, and 20” center-lock GT3 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
Inside, black leather and Pepita houndstooth cloth adorn the seats, while navigation, air conditioning, and a CD stereo add some road-going comfort. The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 225-mph speedometer and an 8,600-rpm redline tachometer. Recent maintenance includes a 2022 spark plug replacement and a June 2024 oil change and decklid shock replacement. This collector-grade 911 R comes with its window sticker, service records, and a clean title.
