While Porsches have appeared many times on the big screen, they have also shown up over and over again on the small screen. Much like with the movies, if we listed every show with a Porsche, it’d be a small novella, so we’ll focus on the shows that have a Porsche in a more prominent role, or as a supporting prop for the storyline.
Better Call Saul: 2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo
During the time that the Salamanca cousins are in Better Call Saul Season 6, they are often seen driving in a 2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. It does feature in a few minor plot points, especially in episodes 2 and 9, but it is otherwise mostly a “background character.” Being more specific about it, it is a first generation pre-facelift US model with crystal silver metallic paint.
While it is not really known what happens to the Cayenne after the season ends, it is suggested that Saul becomes the owner, but the truth is that no one really knows. If he does, well, all we can say is that he scored a pretty sweet Porsche!
Sense8: 2014 Porsche Type 991 911 Turbo S
While the show itself might not have been the most popular thing that Netflix has produced and released, it did feature one episode where a Type 991 911 Turbo S is driven by one of the protagonists across Iceland. It seems a bit of an odd place to drive a Porsche, as there really is only one road around the entire island and most people drive off-road vehicles there, but we’re not complaining! We’re just happy to see a Porsche on a streaming show.
In this case, the car is definitely a background character, more of a story vehicle (if you’ll pardon the pun) than anything else. Sadly, it also gets destroyed in the episode, so it doesn’t have all that much screen time in the end.
Titans: 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera
While it is based off of the Teen Titans comic book, the Titans TV show features Dick Greyson (Robin/Nightwing) driving around in a really well kept 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera. It is not a Turbo, despite having a whale-tail, but one can expect that when your mentor is a billionaire and also is Batman, you get a nice car to drive around in.
Unfortunately, the episode that the car features the most in, Season 1 Episode 5, sees Dick driving it to a dealership to trade it in for a much more team-friendly minivan. While it didn’t have much screen time, it is nice to see an older generation 911 show up in a modern show. Seeing as the series lasted four seasons, from 2018 to 2021, we would have like to have seen a few more Porsches, but the show did its best to separate the Batman and Robin dynamic and focus entirely on the Titans theme.
Chuck: 2006 Porsche Type 997 911 4S Cabriolet
Spy comedies can sometimes be the most interesting places to find Porsches, as they are sleek cars that suit sleek and mysterious spies. Sarah Walker of the series Chuck is often seen driving a black Type 997 911 4S Cabriolet, and it can even be considered the character’s “cool car,” a TV trope where a protagonist or antagonist is known for their car choice.
The only thing that makes this Porsche appearance a touch suspect is that Sarah Walker’s cover is that she’s a food services worker, who shouldn’t be able to afford such a nice car… calling attention to herself much? Not that we mind, of course, being Porsche fans.
Billions: 1986 Porsche 959
In a show about billionaires and dirty money, of course some supercars are expected to be shown. What surprised many people, however, was when they showed a real 1986 Porsche 959 Komfort in the series. We know it was real, because it was driven by Bobby Axelrod (portrayed by Damien Lewis) after he fired actual billionaire Mark Cuban in the show.
While many shows out there where wealth is part of the storyline, to get an actual 959 in for shooting must have taken some work. That’s also not considering how much the insurance for that day or two of shooting must have cost, as 959’s have become more and more rare as their collectible value has gone up.
Californication: 1990 Type 964 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet
In Californication, troubled novelist Hank Moody decides that his car of choice is a nice old 1990 Porsche Type 964 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet. Unlike most of the TV Porsches on this list, this time around the 911 is a supporting character, frequently seen in the show throughout its 7 seasons.
Of course, the Porsche is only part of the entire mess of a life that Hank has created for himself, and is often his place of solace between his alcoholic binges, sex addiction, and drug use. Let’s just say that the car is kind of like that friend that you can go to and admit all your problems to, but as the 911 can’t talk back, it can’t really do much to help him get sober and straight. It’s a comedy show, though, so there are some quite funny bits that take place in the car.
Porsche 2020 Super Bowl Commercial
This moment is properly important because it was the first TV commercial for a Porsche since 1997, if you discount the Porsche YouTube channel’s many mini-documentaries on their cars. It features a Taycan as the newest release, along with several other notable models in a car chase. Not much else needs to be said, just watch the commercial here:
