Can the entry-level Porsche 911 Carrera, the least powerful in the lineup, outpace a Shelby GT350 in a quarter-mile drag race? You’ll see that in this drag race organized by carwow on YouTube.
The Porsche 911 Carrera is powered by a 3.0L turbocharged flat-six engine producing 394 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. It features rear-wheel drive and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with launch control. Weighing in at 1,520 kg, it starts at just under £100,000.
The Shelby GT350, on the other hand, boasts a 5.2L naturally aspirated V8, initially rated at 526 horsepower and 582 Nm of torque. However, this specific model has been tuned to 600 horsepower and 597 Nm. It sends power to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission with launch control. Weighing 1,680 kg, it originally cost around £50,000 in 2019.
The result? Well, things didn’t turn out well for the Shelby. The first run saw the Porsche take an early lead thanks to its launch control, while the Shelby struggled for traction. The 911 completed the quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds, while the GT350 finished in 12.8 seconds. After switching to a drier section of the track, the results remained the same—the Porsche consistently outperformed the Shelby due to its superior traction and launch capabilities.
