Porsche Of The Day: 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Slant Nose

Porsche’s 930 Turbo returned to North America in 1986 after six years, now more refined. Engine size increased from 3.0 to 3.3 liters, boosting output to 282 HP and a top speed exceeding 150 MPH. More than just a turbocharged engine, the 930 was rooted in endurance racing, where Porsche dominated.

By the mid-’70s, the flame-spitting 934 became an icon, later evolving into the slant-nose 935 in 1976 due to an FIA rule loophole that allowed for improved aerodynamics. Customer demand led Porsche to offer the M505 slant-nose option.

This 1987 US-market 911 Turbo coupe features the M505 slant-nose package through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (Special Wishes) program. Reportedly the first M505 example delivered in the US, it was a press car displayed at events like the Indianapolis Toys for Grown Ups Expo and the New York Auto Show before appearing on the June 1987 Automobile Magazine cover.

Finished in Diamond Blue Metallic over burgundy leather, it has a turbocharged 3.3L flat-six, a four-speed manual transaxle, and a limited-slip differential. Features include a sunroof, tea tray spoiler, power seats, air conditioning, and Alpine audio.
