Driving Two of the Wildest Custom 911s Ever Made

The Porsche 911 is an adaptable platform capable of transformation for nearly any purpose. From factory models like the Carrera, Dakar, and GT3 RS to extreme custom builds, the 911’s versatility knows no bounds. Consider two remarkable examples: the RUF CTR and the Lanzante 930 TAG Turbo—both engineering marvels with distinct approaches to ultimate performance.

The RUF CTR features a complete carbon-fiber chassis with inboard suspension and a turbocharged flat-six, producing 700 hp and 649 lb-ft of torque—outperforming even the formidable 991 GT2 RS. Weighing 200 kg less than a GT2 RS, with a manual gearbox and a 223 mph top speed, it’s a modern tribute to the iconic Yellowbird.

The Lanzante 930 TAG Turbo, one of 11 built, is even more outrageous. It houses a 1980s McLaren Formula 1 engine—the AP87, a 1.5L twin-turbo V6 originally raced by Alain Prost. This engine, engineered by Porsche, helped McLaren secure 26 race wins, three drivers’ championships, and two constructors’ titles. Before entering F1 cars, it was tested in a 930 Turbo, giving birth to this unique road car concept. Lanzante acquired F1 engines to create these cars, refining them for road use. The modern version produces 510 hp, revs to 9,000 rpm, and weighs just 1,020 kg.

Henry Catchpole enjoyed these two machines on Anglesey Circuit, experiencing their raw power and unique personalities. Don’t miss the action—watch the full video to see these two legends in motion.
