This 1988 Porsche 959 SC Reimagined by Canepa is set to be offered by RM Sotheby’s at their Miami 2025 auction which could hammer up to $3,500,000. This car is a comprehensive upgrade of Porsche’s iconic 959 supercars, meticulously re-engineered by the renowned Porsche specialist Canepa Motorsports. It is the third example of the 959 SC built by Canepa.
It features a unique color combination with a paint-to-sample Emerald Green exterior and Dark Green leather interior. At the heart of the 959 SC is a reworked 2.85-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that now produces an astonishing 825 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque, almost doubling the original 444-hp output.
This performance boost comes from a range of upgrades, including new BorgWarner turbos, a custom engine management system based on MoTec hardware, and a complete overhaul of the engine internals, including forged pistons and titanium connecting rods. The car also features improved camshafts for better low-end torque, a revised valve train, and a new exhaust system crafted from stainless steel and titanium.
Canepa’s upgrades extend to the suspension, with custom Penske shocks and titanium springs replacing the original 959 Sport coilovers, vastly improving handling and ride quality. The car is fitted with 18-inch magnesium wheels finished in graphite, mirroring the look of oxidized magnesium used in Porsche race cars. Each Canepa upgrade requires over 4,000 hours of work, with more than 3,000 parts being restored or replaced to ensure that each vehicle is as good as new, if not better.
Its design remains mainly faithful to the original 959, with the added enhancements making it an even more formidable and luxurious machine. This particular example, 959 SC 003, began life as a 959 Komfort model and was initially delivered to Monte Carlo before being sold to Japan. It was imported to the US in 2016 and wholly transformed under Canepa’s care.
The car’s unique Emerald Green paint and Dark Green leather interior make it a one-of-a-kind example. It has also been showcased at prestigious events like Luftgekühlt and Rennsport Reunion.
In the last few years, the car has received significant updates, including a $172,000 upgrade to the latest 959 SC specifications and a nearly $70,000 engine refurbishment.
