Based in Pfaffenhausen, Germany, near Stuttgart, RUF began its journey modifying Porsche 911s long before terms like “restomod” entered the automotive lexicon. Under the leadership of Alois Ruf Jr., the company evolved from a small family-run business to a manufacturer of some of the most exclusive and innovative cars.
The story started in the 1960s when Alois Ruf Sr., a mechanic and bus operator, acquired a damaged Porsche 356. After restoring and selling the car, he realized Porsches’s cult-like following and incredible potential. This early experience planted the seed for the company’s focus on Porsche-based projects. Alois Jr., who took over in 1974 after his father’s death, carried this vision forward.
Today, RUF isn’t just modifying existing Porsches—it’s building its cars on unique platforms. Two standout models highlight this shift: the CTR and the SCR. The CTR is a turbocharged beast, while the SCR is a naturally aspirated masterpiece.
The naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine produces 503 horsepower at 8,270 RPM and 347 lb-ft of torque at 5,760 RPM. With a total weight of just 1,250 kg, the SCR achieves 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 199 mph.
Renowned automotive journalist Henry Catchpole recently took the RUF SCR for a drive in a new video from Hagerty on YouTube and shared his thoughts on this rolling piece of automotive art.
