FOR SALE: 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.8

Achieved fifth-place overall finish and class victory at the 1994 12 Hours of Sebring

Launched in 1993, the Carrera RSR 3.8 was designed as a ready-to-race variant of the Carrera RS. Sharing the RS’s widebody shell, it featured an aluminum hood, lightweight doors, thinner side and rear glass, and an adjustable rear wing.

Powering the RSR 3.8 was an air-cooled, naturally aspirated six-cylinder Type 64/04 engine, derived from the 964’s 3.6-liter motor. With higher compression, twin ignition, individual throttle bodies, and Bosch electronic fuel injection, the engine produced an official 325 horsepower, though actual output was around 375–390 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque.

Lightweight features included aluminum doors, a fiberglass rear wing, and slimmer glass. It sported racing suspension, Turbo S disc brakes, 18-inch Speedline center-lock wheels, a front strut brace, and a 43-liter fuel cell. Weighing only 2,673 pounds dry, the RSR 3.8 could reach 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and exceed 180 mph.

This particular 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.8 listed for sale on Bring A Trailer, is one of 51 examples produced. Finished in Grand Prix White with a multicolor livery, it mirrors the look it wore during its fifth-place overall finish and class victory at the 1994 12 Hours of Sebring.

Completed in December 1993 for Mark Sandridge’s Team Salad Racing, chassis 496081 placed second in class and fourth overall at the 1994 Daytona 24 Hours, later claiming class victories at Sebring and Watkins Glen en route to the IMSA GT2 Championship. The car was later sold in 1996 and was raced in SCCA and PCA events before being acquired by UK-musician Neil Primrose.

Key features include a five-speed manual transaxle with limited-slip differential, cross-drilled and ventilated brakes, three-way adjustable Koni shocks, staggered 18” BBS multi-piece wheels, aluminum panels, a fiberglass rear wing, a fuel cell, a welded roll cage, and a Recaro seat with a six-point harness.
