Limited-Edition Porsche 997 GT2 RS For Sale

Number 150 of 500 units produced

The Porsche 997 GT2 RS is an incredibly fast machine, boasting a factory-rated top speed of 209 MPH and delivering 620 HP from its twin-turbocharged 3.6L engine, tuned to the same specs as the Le Mans-winning Porsche GT1 prototype. Built to showcase Porsche’s engineering prowess, it aimed to reclaim the Nürburgring lap record previously set by the Carrera GT, which it achieved with a blistering 7-minute, 18-second lap time.

Limited to just 500 units in 2011, the GT2 RS follows a simple yet effective formula: take the 997 Turbo, enhance it with GT3 RS suspension and brakes, add a GT1-inspired racing engine, and shed as much weight as possible.

The result is a 3,050-pound supercar, achieved by removing the all-wheel-drive system for rear-wheel-drive, deleting the rear seats, replacing standard front seats with lightweight sport versions, swapping the front fenders for carbon-fiber, and using aluminum suspension components and lightweight wheels.

One particularly desirable example of the 997 GT2 RS is headed for auction next month on Bonhams Cars. The car was first delivered to Germany in December 2010 and comes finished white-over-black color scheme over a black interior with red accents.

The car is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and a host of options, including silver-painted wheels, automatic speed control, an ASK audio system, a top-tinted windscreen, cup holders, carbon front wings, a garage door opener, DVD navigation for Europe, carbon side air vents, a carbon center console, and an aluminum footrest.

This Porsche 997 GT2 RS is a rare and desirable car that is sure to appreciate in value as it has only accumulated 2,970 kilometers since new from two owners. It also comes with German registration documents and a photocopy of its Certificate of Conformity.
