Porsche is always known for their engineering excellence, with one of its standout models being the remarkable 959. On March 1-2, Broad Arrow Auctions will be offering an interesting Porsche 959 and is valued at $3,250,000 – $3,750,000.

What makes this Porsche 959 interesting? It was previously under Nissan’s ownership. In 1988, Nissan acquired a new Porsche 959 with the specific aim of studying and replicating its advanced AWD system.

Insights gained from dissecting and evaluating the 959 laid the groundwork for the all-wheel drive mechanism later integrated into the R32-generation Skyline GT-R. After Nissan was finished with the car, it was sold to one of its engineers, who retained ownership until it was exported to the United States.

This particular 959 was later acquired by renowned car restorer and tuner Canepa. Under Canepa’s care, it underwent a transformation into the 959 SC (Sport Canepa), involving over 4,000 hours of restoration with a total expenditure of $950,000.

Every facet of the car underwent refurbishment or enhancement, from the exterior paint and interior to the mechanical elements. The outcome is a vehicle that pays homage to its original design while catapulting it into the modern era, boasting over 800 hp and a top speed surpassing 230 mph.

The original Polar Silver finish has been replaced with Oak Green, and like all other 959s from Canepa, every single bolt, clamp, and connector has been meticulously attended to. Furthermore, the supercar features new Penske shocks with titanium springs, upgraded brakes, custom 18-inch wheels, and an enhanced version of the original 2.8-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine.
