Unveiled at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 911 Dakar pays tribute to the Porsche 953’s triumphant victory in the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally. Porsche transformed the Carrera 4 GTS into a highly capable off-roader, with modifications that include increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, specialized drive modes, and weight-saving measures.
The 992 Dakar is equipped with various technologies, including Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), Porsche Traction Management, the Sport Chrono Package with Dakar-specific engine mounts and ‘Offroad’ and ‘Rallye’ modes, Power steering Plus, and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), as well as Rear-Axle Steering.
Powering the 911 Dakar is a twin-turbocharged 3.0L flat-six engine, identical to the one in the Carrera GTS, with a factory rating of 473 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. It utilizes the cooling system from the 911 Turbo and Turbo S and shares the GT3’s dynamic engine mounts.
Power is distributed to all four wheels via an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transaxle and three differentials. The new 911 Dakar accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, with a top track speed limited to 150 mph due to the tire cross-section height specific to this model.
