718 Model Series Overflow Production Moving To Osnabrück

Porsche recently announced that parts of the production of the 718 model series will be moved from the Porsche main plant in Zuffenhausen to the Volkswagen site in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony.

In order to meet the growing demand from all Porsche customers, starting from the middle of next year, in 2023, the 718 model series overflow production will be at the Volkswagen site. It should be noted that the number of employees in the Zuffenhausen site will not be adversely affected.

Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG Albrecht Reimold said, “The multi-brand plant in Osnabrück has already been a proven partner in our Porsche production network in the past. Our colleagues were responsible for the overflow production of the Cayenne and the 718 Cayman. We are glad to be able to draw on these many years of experience and realize as many of our customers’ sports car dreams as possible.”

Working at full capacity, the main Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant is busy with the production of the 911 and 718 models. Porsche is currently working on their ambitious e-mobility strategy aiming that by the middle of the decade, all the 718 series are fully electrified.

By 2030, their goal is that 80 percent of the share of all their new vehicles will have a fully electric drive. Even then, the two-door line in Zuffenhausen will be producing both the 718 and 911 model series.
