Porsche’s V8-powered 928 has been re-imagined with a modern twist by a young French company called Nardone Automotive. The restomodded coupe receives design tweaks inside and out, a custom-built body made with carbon fiber, and a 400-horsepower V8 engine. The 928 is slowly but surely earning the respect of collectors, and the popularity of restomodded classics has skyrocketed in recent years.
The 928’s wedge-shaped design has been updated with new-look bumpers on both ends, punched-out wheel arches, a modern-looking interpretation of the stock flip-up headlights, and a new take on the rear light bar. 18-inch wheels inspired by the 16-inch units that Porsche offered when the 928 was new add a finishing touch to the look, and most of the body is built using carbon fiber to keep weight in check.
More modifications are found in the cabin, which is upholstered with leather and Alcantara. The instrument cluster and the center stack feature an elegant minimalist design that nonetheless looks period-correct, and the Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) system provides the driver a modern, Apple CarPlay-compatible infotainment system. We’re told there’s a high-end sound system, too.
Power comes from an evolution of the 928’s naturally-aspirated V8, though that isn’t saying much. During its 18-year production run, the coupe saw its engine displacement gradually increase from 4.5 to 5.4 liters. Front-mounted and water-cooled, the eight-cylinder should develop about 400 horsepower thanks in part to modern engine management technology, and it will spin the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. That’s one more cog than the stock 928 offered. Upgraded brakes, an electronic suspension system, and an electric power steering system will come standard, so Nardone’s 928 should drive very differently than the original model.
The Nardone Automotive 928 made its public debut during the Design Week held in Milan in June 2022. It will then travel north to England to participate in the Goodwood Festival of Speed that’s opening its doors on June 23, and deliveries are tentatively scheduled to begin in 2024.
Pricing information hasn’t been announced.
Press Release
Palazzo Borromeo, Milan, 8 June 2022
French company Nardone Automotive presents its own interpretation of the Porsche 928 in a world preview during Milan Design Week.
The 928, since its debut in 1978, has always been an unconventional car, completely different from all the others: there was no similar model in the Porsche range before and, after winning the Car of the Year title, it remained part of their model range for 17 years, selling a total of over 60,000 units. Until now it has never been succeeded, bit of a shame, wouldn’t you agree?
The class of the Porsche 928, with its elegance, its smooth and ultra-modern style could not remain in the past, as if suspended in time. It is for this reason that Thierry Nardone, a sophisticated and expert car guy, with a visceral passion for “transaxle” Porsches, imagined a 928 that could once again express the full potential of the values and characteristics that had defined and shaped it. Almost 45 years earlier: a refined and exciting GT that combines comfort, performance and contemporary luxury.
Today, Nardone Automotive offers a series of changes to the Porsche 928 to transform it into a special and tailor-made GT. The bodywork, with muscular fenders, is made almost entirely of composite materials, the front and rear lights have been specifically designed and built, the new, forged 18-inch wheels equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires are a modern interpretation of the old ‘manhole’ 16” wheel.
The interior has been completely revised and welcomes Foglizzo leather and Alcantara. The infotainment now incorporates the Porsche Classic Management system (PCCM) combined with a luxury Hi-Fi system and Apple CarPlay.
From a technical point of view, the 928 from Nardone Automotive relies on the classic eightcylinder V-aspirated engine targeted to output 400bhp. Managed by a modern engine control unit and coupled to the original 5-speed manual gearbox, now modified to a 6-speed manual with a limited-slip differential. Finally, the chassis setup utilises redesigned front and rear axle and spindle, active controlled electronic suspension, increased brakes and adaptive electric power steering.
After Milan Design Week, Nardone Automotive’s 928 will once again be in the spotlight at one of the most anticipated automotive events of the year, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, from 23 to 26 June, in England.
The first deliveries of the 928 by Nardone Automotive are expected in 2024.
The main features:

Never liked the 928, I was President of the Peter Gregg Motorcars when it came along in ’78,
I always thought it too big and heavy too unlike the wonderful 911. But if I was going to make
street rod 928 it would be with the incredible new ben. Corvette alloy small block which you
can get a crate engine of for not much over $10K and it’s lighter, very much smaller, bigger CI
and vastly more powerful. And go a long way to eliminating the biggest no-no of the 928 the
bulky heavy engine! With a bit of work you could ge the total weight to little if any over 3,000
pounds and have 500-600 hp with around about 5.5#/hp! Quick enough to keep anyone quiet
at the old Motorsports Club bar! THC
