1978 Porsche 924 Safari At Collecting Cars

Collecting Cars is currently offering a modified 1978 Porsche 924 which was rebuilt to Safari specification with the modifications completed in 2022.

The custom-built 1978 Porsche 924 Safari has a silver finish with stylish Martini Racing livery and a variety of manufacturer decals. The exterior was equipped with roof-mounted spare wheel, a set of spot lamps on the front, as well as mud flaps.

The Porsche 924 is fitted with 15-inch ‘mesh’ alloy wheels wrapped in new Toyo all-terrain tires. Since the photos were taken, the Porsche 924 Turbo wheels have been powder-coated in white (see last pic to appreciate). To give the car a wider stance, the example is fitted with new spacers around the axles.

For the interior, it has a couple of new Auto Style bucket seats matched with red D1 Spec harnesses. Other interior features include OMP footwell plates, black synthetic suede-trimmed Vigor steering wheel, VDO dials, hydraulic handbrake, fire extinguisher, and a lot of retrofitted toggle switches.

This Porsche 924 has no known bodywork damage. The Silver finish was resprayed in 2015 and is in overall good condition. There might be some minor imperfections on the sills, and there is a small blister on the rear bumper. For the interior, the racing seats are in great condition. Some fading might be noticed on the dashboard plastics, but it is understandable from the car’s age and use.

There is no known electrical or mechanical issues on the example. Classic Car Service Twente did the most recent service on the example and at the time, it had 58,321 km on the odometer.

When it was being restored, the heat regulator was overhauled, while other parts were replaced like the battery, alternator, o-rings, radiator, distributor, spark plugs, center muffler thermostat, brakes, aluminum rear silencer, wheel bearings, windscreen, bonnet sound mat, boot lid rubbers, roof rubbers, front headlights, and dashboard top.

The sale will come with the original owner’s manual which includes its dealer-affixed price tag, and a stack of maintenance invoices.

As of writing, the 1978 Porsche 924 Safari has a bid of €5,100 with the bid ending in 3 days.
